Ha! One of my resolutions was to exercise more. Last week I walked for 30 minutes one day and did half of a Pilates DVD another day, agh.... but I am starting anew this week with promising myself to exercise at least 4 times a week. How are you doing on keeping up with your resolutions?

Hope you're all hangin' in there this holiday season! Does it seem like time is flying by this last couple weeks? I feel rushed to bake cookies, wrap gifts, decorate, buy last minute presents and go to various festive functions. But I am also trying to keep up with my own December album and make a few handmade holiday cards, and I am excited to finish a couple other quick craft projects I've started. What about you? Is there anything special you can share with us?

5 Steps to an Easy Halloween Card

Hi, everyone! Kat here to show you 5 steps to an easy Halloween Card. Please bare with me...I'm not the most "tech-savvy" person around, so my pitiful little collage of pics will hopefully get the point across :) Step 1: Glue on base elements...I used a tag and journaling spot.

Step 2: Add Washi Tape

Step 3: Add alphabet stickers

Step 4: Outline alphabet stickers and add stitching details

Step 5: Add brads

This card only took me 15 minutes to make...and probably would have been even quicker if I didn't take pictures of every step. If you use this "recipe," please let us know by linking up your creation here! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

hey guys! just wanted to share a quick and easy card i recently made. it's that time of year again where the kiddos are heading back to school ... this is a great card to send someone off to college with.

supplies used =

basic grey: oxford 6x6 paper pad

basic grey: oxford rubons

basic grey: oxford 12x12 elements stickers

paper studio: 4"x5.5" kraft card

instructions =

cut the background paper to 3.75"x5.25" to allow some of the kraft to show around edges. i adhered a rubon then added some various stickers. that's it!!! 5 min card. enjoy!!!

Even though I know you've all been busy with the activities and trips and there's still a month of summer left, we hope you'll play along with us and this fun theme, which is perfect for this month's prompt. August's challenge is "vacation" and so that means scrap a place you've been or perhaps a place you'd like to go. And we'd also like to offer the idea of expanding your creativeness, like perhaps a mini book (perfect for a vacation!) or even something different like a sewing project (like a beach blanket for your Maine Lobster cookout vacation) or piece of jewelry (from your trip to the Bahamas, that shell on the beach you made into a cute necklace), you get the idea.

We have reached that point in our life where we are looking to bring some fresh new faces on board to The Creative Type.

Please send your favorite layout that shows off your use of font/type to Thecreativetype@hotmail.com. Along with the photo just tell us something about yourself and where you are from. That is pretty much it. The deadline for this will be Friday, July 22nd.

As a design team member you will have to do the following

Complete and submit on time one layout a month for that month's challenge
Contribute a blog post to the Creative Type once a month. This can be tips, techniques, side projects etc.
Each member will be responsible for posting current challenge blog post(on either the 1st or 15th) at least once in their 6 month term.
Blog, Facebook, twitter when new challenge comes out on the 1st and 15th of each month.

And that is pretty much it! We look forward to adding some new members and breathing some life back into our sails.

July's special guest designer is Gigi from down under in Australia. We loved her June Creative Type entry with all it's decoupaging and thick layers, so we asked her to join us for July's prompt, my nest. We absolutely love what she did! And here's a little on her...
Hi!!

My name is Giovanna and I live in Australia with my husband and 2 boys. A friend introduced me to scrapbooking back in 2004 and I’ve kinda de-volved to my first love of hand-lettering and mixed media on my layouts.

Outside of being a full-time Super Mum, I enjoy my weekly Pilates class, my recently neglected treadmill and staying in touch with friends over coffee or a movie or dinner. A simple, uncomplicated life these days.

I’m inspired by other artists and scrapbookers and the natural environment. I also look to magazines and billboards for colour combinations and design tips. Although I may not physically DO something each day, I’m always thinking how I can incorporate different elements into my work.

I thank The Creative Type for the opportunity to show you all what I’ve done with this month’s prompt. I hope it will inspire you and to have faith in your own ability to do something a little different.

Hello everyone! It is time to reveal our newest members of the Creative Type design team. As always it is a really hard decision, so many wonderful entries, creative people out there. We thank you all for trying out and we also want to let you know that you are filed away in there for future DT spots:) We hope that these new design team members inspire you as much as they have inspired us!

Emily Pitts

As a third grader, Emily Pitts aspired to be a bulletin board  designer for elementary school teachers. When she learned that such a  career was not really plausible, she was crushed. Years later, when she  discovered scrap booking, she realized it might just be the fulfillment  of her childhood dreams. Emily lives a mile high in beautiful Denver,  Colorado, enjoying the 300 days of sunshine for which the Rocky  Mountains are known. She is married to her perfect match, Kelly, who is  patient very patient with her need to create and take photos. They have  two near perfect children, Annie (16) and Ethan (almost 13). Together,  they provide endless inspiration for Emily’s scrap booking needs.  Influenced by collage artists of late, Emily hopes her style would be  described as handmade and fun, she likes to hand-cut things and use  stitching in her designs. She’s been published in various scrapbook  magazines worldwide, and has the pleasure of writing a regular column on  trends for Scrapbook and Cards Today. She also happily designs for  Studio Calico–a kit club and manufacturer, and the online inspirational  collective, Write. Click. Scrapbook. So while bulletin boards are no  longer her genre of choice, she has found her place in the world of  design.

Hello guys! Patty here. I am super glad to be back at the challenge site that I started 2 years ago. It has come a long way and we have had many awesome design team members old and new take care of it during these past two years. We hope you love it just as much as we do.

Well, we have decided that we shall do our second ever design team call, right about now!

We are looking for 3 new members to add to our already amazing team, and well we have a challenge or shall we say, special prompt just for you. Design and come up with the best type inspired layout about you! That is right, a layout about you, not your child, dog, mom, cat, fish......................a layout that is about who you are, what you love, what makes your hear skip a beat.

We will keep submissions open until November 1st, 10 pm eastern time. Included with your layout just give us a little intro about yourself as well as one prompt idea that you might contribute if you join our team, we want to know what fun challenges you might be able to brew up. We will choose three members based on how well you stay within the challenge, your creativity of both your layout and your prompt idea. And well that is about it for the DT call.

Hey y'all, Danielle here...Welcome back to The Creative Type! We're back from summer break (a little late, I know) and have a lot of exciting new news.

First, we're all really glad to get back into the swing of things and hope you'll join us in the upcoming challenges we have planned. We love seeing what you come up with and being inspired by all the crafty goodness you always show us. It makes us feel really proud to be part of a scrapbooking and crafting community that spans the planet. So stay with us and play along for all the challenges we have coming up!

Over the summer we lost a couple Creative Type DT people, life commitments and whatnot, and we'll miss them and wish them the very best! Hope they'll play along with us sometimes!!!

As for new news, we're excited that our old DT member Sandy has returned once again after spending some time off to be a new mama to her adorable little bean Chloe! Yay for us though, Sandy always brings the most rad stuff.

And we have some new DT members!! You can read their bios in the tab above titled Typists.

Many of you know Jeremy, I was super happy when he decided to join us, he's funny and crazy talented! (P.S. Jer, I love you...)

And I can't wait for you to get to know Marie, she's super creative and a lovely person to boot!!

And many of you know Steph, she's pretty popular in the old scrapbooking circles. We were really excited to have her join us as well!

Elisa who has played along with us since we first started, her pages have inspired and awed us. We just had to have her join our team:)

We have a couple other newbies joining us and as soon as I get their pictures and such, I'll be posting about them!

And we're also looking for a few new Design Team members!! If you think you'd want to join the Creative Type team, please keep an eye out for upcoming news on that. We're looking for creative, fun and commited people to join our CT team. More soon on that.

This challenge is all about INSPIRATIONAL people in your lives. We here at CT had to pick another CT member we are inspired by. It could be their personality, their creative styles, a certain technique they're famous for, and scrapbook them. So, basically, you to pick someone in your life, or maybe in the scrapbook/crafty world (maybe you've never even met them) and scrapboook or do something creative about them. Once you're done, take a picture and upload it here in our Flickr group please!! Also, please leave a comment here on the Creative Type blog with a link to your blog if you have one with the project, and let us know you did upload it to Flickr. It helps us keep track!!

that's right... monograms!! perhaps you think of beautifully monograms pillowcases given to a newly married couple, or matching towels, but you get the idea. think letters!! for a more detailed explanation check out the definition HERE. that might help! perhaps think about the first letter of your last name or your initials. do a page about what they mean to you or how you came to have them. maybe compare your maiden name with your married name. but remember to focus on the LETTERS!!

now i'd like to introduce you to our Guest TyPisT for this prompt: the fabulous ILLY!!

My name is Ilaria (better known as ILLY), I'm 26 years old and I live in Italy with my boyfriend Dario and my two cats Elle and Nina.
I discovered scrapbooking in january 2008 and I fell in love... It was the perfect solution for my photo albums, I have been looking for it for years and I finally found it!

In march 2009 I discovered mixed media and it was instant love. I 've never been a "perfect artist", I always felt like an artist but I didn't believe in my "abilities". Now I believe. Now I know that I can be an artist. Because I love what I do and even if I'm not painting realistically, I do what I like and I'm happy. I discovered the pleasure of playing with art supplies and I love layers.

so, without any further ado, we are onward! Here is our next prompt:

we all have those rub-ons we've been saving forever for "just the right project".... well, that project is NOW!! :D be a little green and use up older products you have already and you might just love what you create.

We have the lovely Mandy Dodd as our Guest TyPisT for this prompt. Lets learn a little more about her:

I’m waving from gorgeous green Tasmania where I live in a big old house looking over the sea with my my ever patient dh (especially when it comes to scrapping!!)

We have three beautiful busy daughters who just about always feature in my LO’s along with our two cats and finches!

I guess my style has been described as shabby chic - but I'll do something different every now and then! Most of all I love TEXTURE - fabrics and laces - layering and distressing, inking and PAINT!!

I love love love how CT motivates me do things I don’t usually think about. It’s a wonderful Challenge Blog that helps my scrapbooking techniques progress and grow. My name is Natalie Elphinstone. I’m 28years old and live in Melbourne, Australia – a city which regularly experiences all 4 seasons in a day. I have a wonderfully supportive husband and two gorgeous girls aged 3 years and 4 months. In my other life I’m a doctor training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, but at the moment I’m able to enjoy being a stay-at-home mum.
I’ve been scrapbooking for 2 years now and I quickly became obsessed after discovering the wonderful online community of scrappers. I find it hard to define my style because I like to try out everything and my design process changes all the time. However – two things remain constant; journaling and hand-made embellishments. I believe in incorporating a certain amount of writing on almost every page because I think it’s important to preserve the memories as well as the pretty products. And I love to hand make embellishments, usually out of scraps readily available on my very messy desk!

now i'd like you to meet Lena!

I’m Lena Schreijenberg and I’m 48 years old. Since my divorce I live with my two children, Carmen (13) and Liam (12), in a small village in the South-West of the Netherlands. The two cats, Harley and Emmy, make our family complete.

I work for three days a week at the courthouse in Middelburg. That’s an office job but in my spare time I just love to create!! That “creating” is something I was born with I guess. As long as I can remember I am always busy to create things. As a little kid I made drawings, knitted and sewed dolls clothes, made cushins for my room…. Now I’m a qualified seamstress and I have made many clothes for myself and my kids. A few years ago I began painting (including this selfportret) and at the moment I’m totally addicted to scrapping!! Just a few weeks ago I took part in a workshop about art journaling and I loved it!! So I guess my latest work is a bit of a mix of scrapping and art journaling.

My name is Larissa Albernaz. I´m  38 years old. I live in Brazil, in a  city called Sao Jose dos Campos, state of Sao Paulo. I´m married and I  have a 7 year old daughter, Isabela (a.k.a  Bebel). 

I have been scrap booking for almost five years and I´m totally addicted which means I see artistic possibilities over everything around me. Every day, I enjoy perceiving the colors in my surroundings and I pay close attention to my inner emotions, even if it’s to throw them out only on a layout.

Along the years, scrapbook has provided me a great sort of artistic possibilities. In fact, I can still learn some new techniques everyday and it provides me to express myself in style, mixing paper, embellishments, colors, memories and a message. So, scrap booking to me is not only a way to preserve my memories but, it's the way I do Art.

We are back once again with another challenge for you!! But before we get to that, lets see who won the last challenge, shall we?

Our next prompt involves taking inspiration from comic books!! All of those big bold words in conversation bubbles, pretty fun stuff to play around with on a layout. Our guest designer is the wonderful Angie Backen!!! I am quite partial to Angie, I was able to meet her last June at Sisiversary, she happened to be my roomie. Other then that, Angie is pretty good at creating some fun and beautiful layouts!! It was about time that we had her guest design.

"Hi! My name is Angie Backen. I am a 37 yo mama of 2 girls and a wife of one incredibly hard working and devastatingly handsome computer guru (nerd?). We share our suburban home in Phoenix, AZ with 2 dogs, a Yorkie named "Waffles" and a German Shepherd named "Pancakes". (I’m thinking we must have been hungry when we named them.) I've been crafty for as long as I can remember. I started scrapbooking in the 90's, when all we had to choose from were a few stickers, frames, and LOTS of mat packs. I eventually gave up on it (proven by my firstborn's unfinished baby album), but continued on with various hobbies. I only started scrapping again a couple of years ago and WOW... this industry has come a long way, and I'm very excited to be a part of it. I'm also thrilled to be a GD for The Creative Type this month. These girls rule! Thank you!"

Prompt #25, Incorporating type in your embellisments.

Well you all rocked it with the neutral challenge, and it was not an easy one to do. I myself enjoyed doing the neutral prompt, because I find that sometimes I go a bit crazy with color. Its like a cleansing of the palette. I think in the future I will look back on this idea a lot more and use it in my layouts and mini book pages more often!

With that said, we have a winner from prompt #24, we loved them all, but we could only choose one.

Lauren, we loved this card!!! We have never had a winner who had done a card before, so this was new for us and it came out wonderful using our neutral rule! Now I have a tid bit of bad news. With CHA just passing, and a lot of our fellow scrappers running around at CHA, we do not have a guest designer this round. We also have a few of our typist M.I.A but they will be back next round. Please forgive us!!

Now on to prompt #25, using type on your embellishments. Whichever way you decide to do, whether you make a piece of a magazine into a flower, or you write all over a tag. Type on your embellishments is the mission!

Well its that time again!! Another prompt accomplished and another one up on the plate. Once again we want to thank all of you for participating. I hope our news print prompt inspired all of you to dig into yesterday's paper and take it to a whole new level! Possibilities are endless and what a very green way to create:) All of you who played along have inspired me, have inspired all of us, so thank you.

Lara came up with one beautiful wall hanging she calls her C reativity Feng Shui Piece and she did it using one of the Gauche Alchemy kits(Banana Hammock kit and the Wedding night kit). We just love what she did with their kits and our prompt.

Happy new year!!!! I hope you all have had a wonderful holiday season, and have enjoyed your time with friends and family, I know I have.

Now its time to get back into the swing of things, back to work for me, and well back to the creative type. Here is to another year of type inspired challenges!

To kick off the new year, prompt #23 will involve newspaper.

Use it anyway you want, but just use it. You will find that newspaper can be a very creative, "green" way to go when putting together layouts as well as other crafty projects.

First of all, I would like to thank all of you for being very patient!! I have no clue what has happened this past month, but I feel time has flown by and my mind is just a big puddle:) I started this challenge site because well I loved challenge sites and thought it would be great to have my own, to inspire others. With alot of help from the girls and a break from running it for a few months, I realized it is alot of work(rewarding) and that I really do love this site and all of the girls on the team as well as all of the people who participate, so thank you!!!

I also wanted to give a very big, HUGE congratulations to one of our Typists who gave birth to her twins this past Friday!!! Judean and her husband(and family) have welcomed two healthy babies into the world, a little girl and little boy. From all of us at The Creative Type, Best wishes and lots of love to you and your family, and take as long as a break as you need:) We understand!! hehe.

Now on to who won prompt #21(insert drum roll)............................................Chris and her lovely layout "Joy" As always it was super, super hard to pick. We all agreed that this prompt was extra hard, so many good entries.

This next prompt is a fun one. We have taken inspiration from a very creative artist named Rob Ryan. For those of you who are not quite sure who he is, be sure to check out his shop as well as his blog.

He is an extremely talented paper cutting artist. Rob Ryan's pieces are really one of a kind, delicate and oh so intricate.

For this prompt we want to see something inspired by his paper cutting's. Of course we are looking along the lines of Typography, but really use your imagination and have tons of fun!!!

Well its that time again, time for a new prompt!! First of all I want to say thank you to all of you who joined in the last prompt, and a hello to all of our new followers.............."Hello"

Our next prompt is all about negative space! Many of us cram it all in, fill a page up from corner to corner. With this prompt we want you to use that negative space and let it flow, let it relax and chill out. Make a statement with your title, and just leave the rest be!
