Suprise! It has been hard to keep this a secret but now we can finally say ....some of the Typists were featured on February PageMaps! What is PageMaps you say? Well, how do I describe it? Basically it is the creation of Becky Fleck each month she features a new series of sketches she has created and examples submitted by fellow scrappers. Her sketches make it so easy and fun to scrap! We were so excited when she asked the Typists to contribute to February's PageMaps!

Julie Kirk:)

Well its that time again, time to see what our Guest designer has got in store for us. So this time it was Retro type, and well I just have to say, I absolutely love what Julie has come up with. She was our first winner here on The Creative Type, and then we all agreed that since her stuff was just so awesome, we would need to have her as one of our guest designers. And well here ya go! Oh and be sure to visit her blog, you will be in awe and highly inspired by what she creates.

"Hello all. I’m Julie and I’m fairly quiet; generally friendly; usually doing or thinking three things at once; obsessed with paper; always scribbling in a notebook … but mostly, right now, I’m really very happy to be here.

Apart from arty-crafty-ness one of my life long passions has been writing and reading and somewhere along the line that grew into a love of type; fonts; hand-drawn letters; alpha-stickers; Dymo machines etc etc …I’m sure you understand!

The ‘retro’ prompt made me think of recreating something
from either the 1950s or the 1980s as the styles of these two decades frequently influence my work...but I decided to try something different.

On a recent browse around www.dafont.com [oh, come on, you do it too! I know I can’t be the only one who spends time cruising for new ‘types’ on there] I’d discovered some fabulous late 19th Century inspired fonts such as ‘Barnum & Bailey’, ‘Romantiques’ and ‘Cast Iron’ which are so evocative of old fairground rides and travelling shows that I fell entirely in love. So I went really retro. About 121 years retro in fact.

I painted my initial [in the style of the ‘JF Ringmaster’ type] on to the cover of a hardback novel published in 1888 which cost me the grand
sum of 30p [45c] from a second-hand book shop. I bought it a few months ago with the intention of eventually turning it into a journal … and now that I have my monogrammed front cover in place I think I’ll get on with it! And while I’m doing that, I’m going to sit back, get comfortable and wait to see how you all interpret ‘retro’. Over to you!"

I just loved how beautiful she hand painted that J, it came out stunning. Thank you Julie!!!

So you will win a prize and you will be a guest Typist. Sounds like fun, heh??

Don't forget the numbers

Hi,
Pam here:
I just love this ides for a perpetual calendar I found on Photojojo.
Grab your camera, photograph any interesting numbers you see, until you have the numbers 1-31. (or you can cheat a little and look for number photos on Flickr!) Then print off to make this calendar. I think it would be great to use magnets on the back and use a magnetic board for the calendar- or even your fridge! It would certainly cheer me up to have a calendar like this!

Meanwhile don't forget to post a link to your entry to our current prompt about resolutions.
Thanks to all of you who have linked your work so far. It is going to be the toughest choice yet.

The entries ROCK!

Please welcome our first Guest Designer of 2009!

Well hello 2009 and hello to our 9Th guest designer here at The Creative Type. We definitely have one creative girl to help bring you some inspiration while working on your take of Prompt #9. I will just let her speak for herself, because she already knows how much I love her!

"Hi I am Cynthia. I live in Minnesota, married to Ahmed and am 34. You can usually find me on my blog technicolor postcards writing about my random objects of affection or whatever strikes my life's fancy. My first love is writing and that is what brought me to this making pages thing:) where else can i combine my passion for design, history, fashion and documenting on paper like this? It has helped me rediscover my love for collage and a use for my huge stash of old postcards and life magazines. I also love wearing red lipstick almost everyday ,listening to my ipod every chance I get and using my sunglasses as a headband more often than I care to admit:) In scrap booking I am a creature of habit. I never become tired of simple, but I do like to experiment. But always go back to what comes natural. Packing tape transfer, Thickers, typewriter fonts, paint, pictures with white trim or have that cross processed look and Polaroids. Imperfection is perfection for me. Thank you Creative Type for letting me visit, I am so grateful. Happy New Year."

No, thank you Cynthia. Your take on prompt #9 was just awesome! Be sure to visit Cynthia's blog and leave some love!

And so it begins...........................AGAIN!

Yes that's right, we are back, ready for round two! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season(whichever holiday it was you celebrated, or perhaps didn't celebrate) If you had taken a break from creating or were a busy bee during The Creative Type vacation, GET ready to get back into action!! We have some great sponsors and equally wonderful Guest Designers. And I would also like to think that we have some fun, get ya going prompts(at least I hope)
I would also like to announce something new that we are going to be trying out from here on out. With each prompt as you all know we gather together and vote on a winner, which by the way is a very hard thing to do in deed! Well, not only will that winner get an awesome prize from one of our sponsors, but they will now go on to Guest Design for the next prompt. So without further a do, I present to you prompt #9 "Resolutions" What could be a better way to start 2009 off with on The Creative Type then with a piece inspired by your New Year resolutions?? And of course, those New Years resolutions written in some very interesting, fun font styles. Well there you go, that's your mission, now hop to it:) Oh my goodness I am forgetting a very important piece of information. The winner for prompt #9 will take home these very one of a kind prints(5 of them to be exact) created by one talented letter press artist Elise. Be sure to go and browse her shop and see all of the goodness that she makes!!! Thank you Elise!
Please have all layouts linked up to this comment section by Sunday, January 25th 9pm Eastern Time for your
chance to win.
