Cleaning house a bit

Dont be frightened of the way the blog looks for the next few days. I am trying to tweak a few things here and there, so we have more room and a fresher look. I promise we will be back and looking good ONLY in a few days!

She worked it.

I hope everyone is enjoying our site, and maybe starting to become a little a more comfortable when it comes to type and the use of it in your artwork. That is our goal. I can only say that we have many more things up our sleeves and we would love to see more and more people participate and add to our already friendly and creative nook on the Internet.

For our third guest designer I introduce to you, the ever so talented Zina. This chick does it all, and looking at her stuff makes me want to take out my supplies and just stop being so damn lazy lately. I guess that is always the case when I stumble upon highly artistic people. Be sure to check out her blog, its bursting with all kinds of good stuff, seriously.

Her Bio

*click on the image above to read a little something about who she is, and why type is important to her.

Use a quote as your background...........................Zina you rocked this!

The colors, the lettering, the images.............................................she is the poster child of our Use a quote as a background prompt.

I'm sure we will be seeing much more of Zina here at the Creative Type in weeks to come.

Prompt #3 Quotations

Happy Monday everyone!! Its Becki here coming to announce the Third Prompt! BUT first thanks to everyone who participated in our 2ND prompt and WAY to ROCK the ty
pe ladies! They were awesome! And congrats to the winner!

On to the third prompt!! I know a lot of us have quotations or words of wisdom that we believe and live by. I personally collect quotes, I love to find inspiration from things , there are no boundaries, just find a quote you love and create around it. It can be an ATC, a photo, a 12x12 LO or just a piece of random, Cardboard make it yours! You can run away with this be creative, BUT the main theme of your piece has to be a Quote and of course once again...........focus on type! This site is one of my favorite for finding great quotes http://thinkexist.com.
that people have said. Profound quotes are some of my favorite! SO the Challenge this week is to Create a LO with a quote...there are no size restrictions

Now this is the part that gets your butt in gear, heading off to the drawing table and plotting your ideas on paper. One lucky winner will win an oh so fabulous book, dedicated to the handwritten letter. Go and read more about this treasure of book over here.

All prompt #3 finished pieces should be linked to the comment section of this post no later then Sunday, October 6Th at 12 pm Eastern time. Hello all. Steph here. Just wanted to share a little something with you before I leave for work! A lot of my friends used to have this poster hanging on their walls (you may well recognise it):

I used to feel a bit envious whenever I saw this poster in a friend's room, and wished that I could have it too! But I could never quite put my finger on why I liked it. I'm not really that enamoured by the colours and, whilst I do love cats, this one looks a bit scary. So for ages, my love for this poster went rather unexplained. Until now. Until I started with the Creative Type. It's the font!! Look how cool it is. Very old looking, very French. I love it! I don't know why I didn't realise that before! But it's not very intricate, so you could easily draw similar type yourself. I might try it!

Have a wonderful day :)

Not done just yet.

With bios that is!!!

*Cara*

Of course I would only choose the most sweetest girls for our team, and Cara is one of them. Plus her scrapping style just rocks!

*Stephanie*

This England native is another unique scrapper. I love the stuff she comes up with, its not your typical layout usually. I also wanted to send some "Good Luck" vibes to her on her new dream job that she landed...............I believe its for a magazine. Enjoy your new job!!!!!!

Bios

*Shaina*

This girl is so outgoing, so sweet, so creative and I'm happy to have her as a part of our team!

*Niella*

We have another International Typist coming at you from New Zealand. Her and her sister put together great little kits of bits and pieces that you can use in your layouts or pretty much anything you love to create.

Some more design team takes on prompt #2

Whats your font??

Here's what some of the design team said was theirs:

Cara
"The font I used is American typewriter. thought it was kind of fun that I used such a traditional, older font on a layout about traditions."

Kent
Good 'ole Arial is one of my favorite "go to" fonts. If I ever have a layout where I really want the focus on WHAT I am writing and not necessarily how it looks, I almost always default back to this font. It's clean, easy to read and doesn't take away from the photos.
One of my favorite places to download fonts is www.scrapvillage.com! Check out the Library section. There are all kinds of fonts to download for free and all geared towards the scrapper! Check out Metallic Avocado - that is my 2ND favorite font!

Pam
Pam used 1942 Report as the font that she feels is closest to her personality.

Stephanie

Click on Stephanie's image above to read which font she relates to the most.

Susan

Susan chose "Cracked". I can totally agree with the reasons why this is the one she feels fits her persona best.

Remember...............all those participating must have their projects linked up no later then Sunday, September 21st 12 pm Eastern time. Please leave a link to your piece in the comments section of the original prompt # 2 blog post. Also feel free to email all entries to Thecreativetype@hotmail.com for your chance to win that great prize sponsored by Jen.

My Type: Underwood

Wow! This was tough!! I LOVE all sorts of type and use whichever one that seems to fit the situation/need. BUT, after thinking about it, I am a classic girl at heart. I love the good old fashion typewriter style font, Times, ya know, those Types.

So for this prompt, Underwood is my Type :) Interestingly enough, I do have an Underwood. I love this thing. I can't quite use it but it's so gorgeous!

LOVE LOVE LOVE what I see!!! Can't wait to see more!

"Type Casting" :)

Hmmmm ME,My Type/Font?

Well I usually use what ever I think suits the creative effect I want on my layouts!..... but I would have to say that when pressed my fave fonts, that speak ME, would be hand writing, [my own] which I use a lot, and typewriter fonts, which reflects my sometimes overriding conservative side [lol]!

As a person I am inspired by all things oriental, and I know it also influences my creativity as well. With all this in mind you will be able to appreciate the 'why' of the Layout I have created. [The chinese seals/symbols are: Prosperity, Joy, Peace, and Good Luck].

Cheers and Happy Type Scrapping,

Lou :) xxx

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

hey lovely ladies, just wanted to pop in and share my take on prompt #2.

one of my favorite fonts to use is Miss Brooks, I love the look of it especially for journaling. My own handwriting is not nearly as neat, which is one of the reasons I like it so much. Can't wait to see what every one's favorites are.
~april

my take on prompt 2.

i did this a little bit wrong and didn't only use the font. but the fact is - it's my fave so i had to use it. it is one that i letterpress with called "adscript".

i used my second favorite font (helvetica) to say why.

add a little type to your life

so, as i'm sure you can imagine, i love type.
a lot.
and i try to incorporate it into my life as much as possible.
but there are so many more ways to incorporate it into your life, besides scrapbooking (not that there is anything wrong with that, of course :)
here are some of my favorite finds that can give you little injections of type throughout your life and home.

this little necklace is perhaps the cutest thing ever.

uppercase scarf. what a statement. can you just imagine bundling up in this when it gets chilly?? also comes in lowercase, numbers, black or white.

i love you bowl i have a secret dream of buying this dish, then serving adam fresh blackberries in it.

read button. sometimes you just want to whisper what you're really feeling. a button is perfect! {i always wear a t-shirt message when i want to shout something} not only do i love the message, as my other passion is reading, the typewriter font is fab.

french love shirt i do however, love to shout in foreign languages :)

peace
our very own jen hooks up your little ones with adorable text tees of their own!

another way that i love to incorporate text into my home is to buy cards or posters, frame them and voila! instant art! some of my favorites:

joy shout card check out her other listings too- they are marvelous!

and we've only just begun

enjoy the ride. she has some great stuff in her shop as well. beautiful pictures + awesome text.

it's simple.
our very own elise has a fab shop full of hand letterpressed goodies. i have this one in red, framed and hanging up in my bathroom. it totally motivates me everyday. check out the rest of her shop. i wish i could live in it.

so, go ahead and put a dent in your bank account. i do often..lol. but it makes my house so full of type, and that makes me happy. and can you honestly put a price on happiness?
there is so much more stuff out there that incorporates type too. just go to etsy and put 'text' in the search box. you'll come up with oodles of pages.
